Methods to Generate More Reviews Part One – How Google Asks for Reviews

Let’s start with talking about how Google asks for a review. Google always says, “You better not ask for a review”.  They have removed reviews that they feel were requested. However, Google will say to you, for example “If you write a review for the Austin Hot Sauce Festival, any review, and you just show it to us, we’ll give you free Google swag.” That’s totally opposite what they tell businesses.

If you write a review about x y z, then show it to us, we will give you a t-shirt.

What they are telling you is “Don’t ask for a positive review”.

You can ask for a review, you can’t ask for a positive review, that’s the difference. If you ask for a directly positive review and offer your customer a discount to write it that gets back to Google and you’ll be outed.

Yelp has the same policy. So it can be worth your while to generate reviews using alternate methods.

The best way that I have found to generate reviews is to compensate your employees for reviews. Maybe create a contest for the employee that generates the most reviews.

Create a competition, with a reward, for the
employee responsible for the most reviews in 30 days

This builds employee morale. You and your employees are building towards a common goal. Your employees are getting rewarded and you’re getting rewarded as well. Many people don’t think about paying their employees, they think “it’s their job”. If you give incentives, your employees will participate in them, and likely be happier.

Example, $50 Amazon gift card to the employee that brings in the most reviews in December

Incenting your employees to generate reviews is a win-win for everyone. Employees feel rewarded, you gain more customers, and customers gain confidence when selecting your services. This method of generating reviews is a no-brainer.
