Using Quotations to Diagnose Your Online Reputation

Let’s face it. It can be really hard to take stock of your reviewers. In order to guide your online reputation, you have to find out what people think of you. You start by getting a base line. The way to do this is by doing three different searches: your name, your address and your phone number, using quotation marks in each search.

Use quotes on your phone number and address

“512-590-5957” “6425 South Interstate 35”

It’s almost like triangulation. You’re trying to find the outliers. You will also find the strong points you need to build your reputation, as well as your unique points that will help you stand out. As you bring up your first search, begin to index the results. Your NAP is important to note in these searches. Write down the periods and commas, any type of punctuation you see being used.

Make a note of directories that pop up on the first page

Limit your search to page 3, or if you’re REALLY indexing the internet, go to page 17. The reason I go to page 17 is because Google says that’s approximately where the 200th search will appear, but that’s a lot. If I go past page 3 it’s usually for deep research on a project, so page 3 will suffice. Google’s annual report states that 99% of people do not go past page 3. So anything you do past page 3 means you’re working on the 1% of searchers. Don’t waste your time. Do this for each search. Keep in mind that your index is going to be unique to you.

You will soon have a clear indication of what your online reputation is and whether or not your diagnosis is a healthy one. Your reputation starts by building your custom index. Use these search techniques to diagnose and influence your customers’ opinions and loyalty.
